WHAT ARE COMMUNICATION SKILLS?

 Communication skill is one of the most important skills we can ever make in our life, there is no other substitute for this skill. Your success in terms of career-wise or relationship-wise, communication skills matters a lot. If you have a good command of this skill then no one can define your success because there wouldn't be any upper limit on how successful you can be!

WHAT ARE COMMUNICATION SKILLS?

So, communication skills are the abilities you use when giving or receiving information. Communication skills mean how you interact with people, how you talk to someone, how good you are as a speaker, how confident you are while speaking, how good a listener you are, how you convey your ideas or more, there are a lot of things which matters in order to become a good communicator.

I am going to share an experience with you, today morning I was talking to someone who was from Bihar, currently, he is in Rajasthan, he is doing B.tech & he is in his last year. These days he is trying to get a job, till date he has given 8 interviews but from every interview, he was rejected because of his lack of communication skills. He is a good coder as he mentioned and he passed 8 exams out of 10 but he was not able to complete his interview phase, he told me that he used to get hesitant when it comes to interacting while speaking I noticed he also has a problem of English but most importantly he was making communicating problem. While talking to that guy I realized that I am also not so good at communicating so, I just told him to keep practicing because there isn't any other way of becoming a good speaker without practicing. 

While talking to a lot of people I was figuring out that some people think that communication skills and spoken English are the same things but this is not so true, your spoken English can add some extra effort to make your communication more beautiful but more importantly you have to know this skills. Learning spoken English is needed for the era or for the future you can say and believe me, this is not so hard to learn spoken English, you can have a good command over this language if you just practice for at least 6 months. Learning communication skills is more important than English. 

*WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF HAVING GOOD COMMUNICATION SKILLS?

So, if you have a good communication skill then your growth will be very fast compared to with who have low-level of communication skills. Let's see some benefits of having good communication skills,

1) If you have good communication skills then people would be easily impressed by you, you would find people are getting interested to talk to you because they feel comfortable while communicating with you, this is an advantage you have because through communicating you can learn a lot.

2) As I mentioned before if you have good communication skills then your success ratio will always be higher than the people who have a low level of communication. For example, during an interview apart from your degree, your scalability communication also plays a very important role. You have to show them your ability to do the work by your communication. In the case of business, communication also plays a very important role, if you aren't able to convince your investors about your idea, then your idea may have some potential but still, it will not work out, if you aren't able to convey your thought process throughout your team member then your team will not perform better, how they get motivated! or maybe you are a freelancer or a digital marketer, still, you also need this skill, it will help to convince your clients that you are the right person for that particular work, so in every fraction of our success communication plays a very important role, we all should conquer this skill.

3) If you have good communication skills then it helps you to build long relations not only with your partner but also with your friends, colleagues, with your boss, or with anybody. this is great right! because what happens sometimes is communication is needed for handling some personal problems and if you have good communication skills then probably you would be able to solve the problem by understanding the other person, giving the other person value...

HOW CAN ANYONE IMPROVE THEIR COMMUNICATIONS AT WHERE THEY ARE NOW ON THIS JOURNEY?

There is only one way of being good at communicating is practice, how good you are as a communicator it depends on how much practice you have done, practice with your friends, colleague, strangers or with anybody. So, if you want to be attractive, if you want to be good at communicating then you should practice communication. If you want to see how good you are as a communicator then look upon yourself and try to figure out how good you are to convey your words or navigate with people! So, let's see some of the practical ways of learning or understanding communication...

1) LEARN TO LISTEN: This is the most important aspect of becoming a good communicator, try to think, we are always in a hurry, that's why whenever we interact with people we aren't concerned about what the other person says, we are just focused what we are saying, sometimes what happens we ask questions to the other person but instead of listening we are going to prepare what would be the next question then I would look more attractive, more intelligent or stuff like that, but this is not so true because in the learning aspect we haven't been learned anything and we do this kind of thing sometimes because we do not want to be judged by anyone, but believe me if you focus on learning instead of pretending you are learning then soon you will be able to conquer this problem. In order to become a good communicator, this is the problem I have been facing a lot, so we should focus more on listening and the only way in order to listen to something is we have to be calm mentally and this would happen when we would not do multitasking, we should focus on one thing at one time then productivity comes to play.

2) ASK QUESTIONS: Apart from listening, ask for a question is equally important. This is important because asking for a question is also an art, people often use to ask some questions which really don't matter with the topic what some people are talking about, right! So, always try to ask good questions that can enhance your communication power, the other person also shows interest to talk to you. Here I amn't talking about thinking for a moment before going to ask anything to your friends no this is something different but in order to enhance your communication skills ask a good question is really matter.

3) UNDERSTAND THE EMOTIONS: Well I personally think understanding the emotions of the other person's really matters in order to make good communication. For example, we all have a lot of friends and we know a little bit about all of theirs interests by watching their Whatsapp stories, by chatting or communicating with them that's why when we talk to them, we know what are the topics we should talk about, by showing interest in other people's interest we easily communicate with them and the other person also shows their interest to talk to us. And when it comes to communicating with strangers, at that time we also can understand the other person's emotions by just observing him/her, their behaviors, their way to communicate tells us so many things about them, at the first meeting you cannot know everything about the other person but almost everything, there is a code" your first impression is your last impression". That's why we should try to understand the emotions of the other person and in the 21st century, I think we all are pretty smart at understanding human emotions.

Apart from these, there are some other factors that matter in order to become a good communicator are like don't criticize, condemn, be generous with praise, remember their name( Shakespeare had said that what is in a name! but maybe he had forgotten that most of the people are getting impressed when someone called them by their name😋), be genuinely interested in other people, make people feel important, etc, etc. There are a lot of books out there you can read to enhance your communication skills like "How to win friends and influence people" and "How to talk to anyone" etc.
