HOW TO LEARN SPOKEN ENGLISH?
Before learning this language we have to know why this language is so important, is this because English is an international language, or is there any specific reason behind that! I personally believe that everybody should learn spoken English but not the purpose of being cool in front of your friends or society or like that but you should learn English to get a high opportunity or stuff like that. If you know English, it will help you crack your first interview because your English puts an extra effort to make this conversation more valuable or if you want to go on your entrepreneur's path, then it makes a lot of sense to learn spoken English. If you know English then it will help you in many ways because in today's era everything is moving into the English language, everybody wants to hire a person who knows English, every business-deals are happening in the English language, some people even think that if you know the English language then you are surely a knowledgable person or if you go abroad then English becomes necessary to learn for you to communicate with people or stuff like that. In reality, English is just a language, don't be so tensed if you aren't so fluent in English, anybody can learn the language by following some rules consistently. There is no hard & fast rule to learn spoken English, rules are very simple but the problem comes to the majority of people when it comes to practice the rules consistently because this is not our mother tongue that's why we cannot learn this language overnight, we have to give time to it, right! It is also one type of skill. Many people take courses for learning English which is not bad but I personally believe that if anyone really wants to learn spoken English then that person can learn this language free of cost because in today's era everything is freely available on the internet, how can we forget youtube? the biggest teacher, after all, anyone can learn anything from youtube. I have been learning so many things from youtube since I have my phone. So I am going to share some tips on how can anybody learn spoken English or get fluency, first of all, I am not an expert, I am just a 19-year-old boy who tries to do something good in life. I am just here to share some tips that I have been following for almost a year, let's start.....
I just started focussing on my English after completing my twelfth board. I did not have anything specifically to do at that time, so I just started focusing on my English. Because at that time I was not so good at English so I started. So, I started watching a lot of videos on youtube from different kinds, started reading blogs, downloaded some applications from the play store, and started reading those communications that were happening between two or three people in those dialogues. I had been doing these kinds of things for 3-4 months, after that, I adopted a habit of book reading, the first book I was read called " Rich dad poor dad" written by Robert Kiyosaki which had become a life-changing book for me and after that book reading becomes one of my topmost priorities. This habit also helped me to grow as a learner. After that, the most important thing that happened to me, one day I was just watching some videos on youtube, then I noticed a video where the creator was making communication type of videos with native speakers & in his description, I found a Whatsapp group link which was created by him, in that group there were around 200 of people & they were just talking to each other through phone calls, through video calls, voice call or stuff like that, it was a new thing for me and I also started talking and I realized that my English was not so good, I started thinking what had I been learning in these 3-4 months & I understood that it doesn't matter how many videos you have watched, how many articles you have read or how many knowledge about English you have, the matter is that if you have not practiced so well then you are not going to become a fluent speaker, you may understand everything from a 2 hour English movie but still, you cannot express your thoughts clearly, so if you want to be fluent at english then you must have to be practiced as much as you can. That's why in December & January I practiced a lot. After that, due to some reason, I stopped practicing because I shifted to some other place because my college had started and also in a new place there were a lot of distractions. Then the second lockdown came and for that, I came home and again started practiced a little bit, yeah this is all about.
So basically, there are 5 things that I have been following and anyone can get the fluency by following these steps, actually not the steps, you can say it is a process. So, these 5 things are speaking, listening, writing, reading, watching.
1)SPEAKING: Speaking is the key factor of learning any language. The more you practice, the more fluency you will get. First of all, you need to find somebody who can speak English and catch your mistakes, then start practice with him/her as much as possible. There is a code " practice makes a man perfect"
2)LISTENING: Listening is also an important part of this journey because if you cannot understand conversations by listening then how can you be able to talk? so, focus on your listening skills, it gives you clarity, your mind is much calmer when you listen to something because you have to give your attention to the thing you listen to. You can go to Spotify and can start listening to podcasts, this is a very effective way by the way.
3)WRITING: Writing can also play a very important part in your speaking journey. I am saying this because when we talk like we aren't very concerned about what we are saying but when it comes to writing, we think very carefully about each line. Thus, our writing helps us understand the rules, so the more we write, the more perfect we will be.
4)READING: I think I don't need to say anything about this. We all know the importance of reading books, not only the matter of learning English but also we can learn a lot more valuable things by just reading books. In the perspective of learning spoken English reading books helps us a lot, firstly when we read books we learn a lot of new words, we get clarity in terms of making various kinds of sentences, even those who are not very strong grammatically can learn a lot about grammar rules through reading books.
5)WATCHING: We use to consume a lot of content on various topics through different platforms like youtube, IG, or stuff like that, what if we start watching the same content in the English language, so damn nothing will go away from us but a lot will come. We just need to take one step further and we can learn a lot, so if you can make this your habit like whatever you are going to watch on youtube, you just need to find the topic in the English language and if you continue to do then it will change your life completely, after some months you will feel you have learned a lot and believe me, at that time you will have another level of confidence.
You might have noticed that you have read an article recently and I hope you have understood easily, so congrats 👏, you have finished one of your tasks out of 5. So, what are you looking for? start practicing, don't let English stand in the way of your success. I wish you all will achieve whatever dream you have planned for yourself.
